The Oakland Strokes’ Men’s and Women’s 8+(8 rowers and a coxswain) boats will both be competing in the Junior Rowing National Championships in Cincinnati, OH,  in mid-June.  The qualifications were just part of an outstanding team showing at the Southwest Regional Championships at Lake Natoma on May 8th and 9th.   The Women’s  team will be represented at Nationals by Molly Fehr(Coxswain), Elizabeth Lenczowski, Nikki Dahlberg-Seeth, Becky Bauer, and Dana Walsh of Miramonte High; Katie McKeen, and Nicole Sung-Jereczek  of Piedmont High; Camilla Polacoff of Bently High, and Corinne Bozzini of Campolindo High School.  In addiiton, the Women’s Lightweight 8+ also qualified for Nationals with a first place finish and was crewed by Katie Bird (Piedmont High), Michelle Lee (Miramonte), Becky Bauer (Miramonte), Anna Wietelmann (Piedmont High), Molly Fehr (Miramonte), Kristen Oyen (St. Joseph Notre Dame), Anne Hofinga (Miramonte), Sarah Goldman (Piedmont), Elizabeth Lenczowski (Miramonte).  And it wasn’t just the 8+ boats that fared well.  Dana Walsh (Miramonte) and Nikki Dahlberg-Seeth (Miramonte) placed 2nd in the women’s 2 finals and also qualified for Nationals. 

The men’s 8 will be rowed by Alec Steele(Coxswain), Ian Drake, and Rocky Davis of Miramonte; David Hosler and Jack Andreoni of Piedmont; Hayden Bierwith from the Athenian School; Zach Attaran of Acalanes High School; and Billy Deskin and Alex Sheridan from Campolindo.  In addition, the Varsity Lightweight 8+ qualified for Nationals with a  3nd place finish overall in the Lightweight division.   The Lightweight 8+ team was rowed by Alec Steele(Coxswain), Rocky Davis, James Kwan, David Hosler, alex Sheridan, Eric Sezgen, Sam Labberton, Alex Tehrani and Ben Nelson.  Women’s Teams Grab Unprecedented Gold

The Strokes’ women’s teams were outstanding at the Regional’s with 4 first place finishes in the women’s Varsity 8+,  JV8+, 3V8+, and Lightweight 8+ races, an unprecedented performance in the Women’s Varsity division.

Men’s Teams Busy on the Podium

The Strokes’ men’s teams rowed to many medal- earning finishes over the weekend.  The previously mentioned Nationals qualified men’s 8+ finished in 3rd overall.  The Men’s Lightweight 8+ crew finished 3rd and also qualified for Nationals.  The JV8+ team captured second place overall, and the 3V8+ team rowed to a 3rd place finish in their category.  The Men’s Novice team was outstanding with an overall 1st place in the 8+ races, while the Novice 8+B crew took 2nd place in their division.  The Men’s Novice 4+ crew rowed to second place overall in their category.
