-Oakland Strokes finish strong at Lake Natoma

Gold River, CA – The Oakland Strokes Rowing Club’s varsity women’s eight placed third, and the men’s varsity was fourth in the Head of the American Regatta on Saturday on Lake Natoma.
The event, sponsored by the Sacramento State Aquatic Center, had nearly 500 entries from 61 clubs in five states. The course was 5 kilometers or just over three miles.
In the women’s boat were Lizzie Pate, Lafayette (Miramonte); Sarah Runyon, Lafayette (Campolindo); Kristen Lukins, Lafayette (Campolindo); Corinne Bozzini, Lafayette (Campolindo); Camille Triebsch, Moraga (Campolindo) Ellen Pate, Lafayette (Miramonte); Michelle Lee, Orinda (Miramonte); Indigo Catton, Lafayette (Campolindo) and coxswain Cassey Chan, Piedmont (Piedmont).
In the men’s boat were Bryan Wharton, Lafayette (Acalanes); Alec Petty, Piedmont (Piedmont); Cameron Baker, Orinda (Miramonte); Felix Tripier, San Francisco, (Las Lomas); Ryan Sandy, Orinda (Miramonte); Sam McDonald, Piedmont (Piedmont); Olven Yu, Alameda (Bishop O’Dowd); Leslie Earl-Gould, Oakland (Oakland Tech): and coxswain Mathison Young, Orinda (Miramonte).
The Strokes’ women’s novice boat finished fifth, and the men’s novice boat eighth. Next weekend the Oakland Strokes compete in the Newport Beach Regatta.
Oakland Strokes, a 200-member junior rowing club for middle and high school students, has sent countless student-athletes to college rowing programs across the country. Each year the Strokes competitive boats place strongly in local, regional and national championship regattas. Its boathouse is on the Oakland estuary near the High Street Bridge.
