Summer programs will be located at two locations on two bodies of water, Oakland and Orinda. Look closely at the camp you are registering for.

Learn to Row Camps

$350 per each 1 week session

This camp is an introduction to the wonderful sport of rowing.  We will focus on learning the basic rowing stroke in a fun and no pressure environment.

No previous rowing experience necessary!  Open to anyone entering 6th to 12th grades in the Fall of 2017.

San Pablo Reservoir, Orinda
Time: 8:30 to 11:30am

  • Session 1 Learn to Row Camp: June 12 to June 17
  • Session 2 Learn to Row Camp: June 19 to July 24
  • Session 3 Learn to Row Camp: June 26 to June 30

Tidewater Boating Center
Time: 8:30 to 11:30am

  • Session 4 Learn to Row Camp: July 10 to July 14

CONTINUING ROWING CAMPS

$350 per 1 week session

This camp builds on our Learn to Row camps. Technical skills improvement is a major focus, teaching the athletes to be better rowers. This camp will also have a conditioning component to it, with at least one hour per day will be focused on athletic conditioning.

This camp is open to all athletes who have attended at least one session of summer camp or a school year middle school session. Open to anyone entering 6th to 12th grades in the Fall of 2017.

Introduction to Competitive Rowing CAMPS

$350 per 1 week session

A $100 per week discount is offered to all athletes who volunteer during our morning Learn to Row sessions.  See requirements below.

This camp builds on our Continuing Rowing camps. Continued technical skills development and conditioning is stressed as athletes learn what it will be like to be part of the Oakland Strokes Competitive Rowing Team. This camp will have a conditioning component to it, with at least one hour per day will be focused on athletic conditioning.

This camp is open to all athletes who have attended the Continuing Rowing camp, or the Oakland Strokes Advanced Middle School program (or equivalent).  Open to anyone entering 8th to 12th grades in the Fall of 2017.

Volunteer Guidelines

The Oakland Strokes are offering a discount for athletes who volunteer to attend at the entire week of the learn to row camp and actively volunteer and participate. Volunteers must have either completed a year in the Advanced Middle School program, Novice program, or above.  Please talk to your coach for information on how to sign up.

Note: Volunteers will be active from 8:30am to 1:30pm, please come prepared with food and water!

Men's & Women's Varsity Camps

(Below is the 2016 Varsity Camp Information, 2017 Camp Information will be posted later this Spring.)

 

WOMEN'S VARSITY CAMP

$1050/5 week session; $150/1 week “jump start” session

The goals of the camp are to increase technical ability, strength and aerobic conditioning, with an emphasis on skill acquisition and learning to train. This camp will introduce incoming varsity rowers to the way the varsity women train, how we row and the culture we believe leads not only to athletic success but to well rounded strong women.

Eligibility: This camp is open to Oakland Strokes athletes only who will be enrolled on the Woman’s Varsity squad in the Fall of 2016.  The “jump start” session is intended for rowers and coxswains transitioning from the Novice squad to the Varsity squad; all transitioning athletes are highly encouraged to take the 1 week “jump start” session.

Athletes who cannot attend the full camp but wish to attend a partial session should contact Coaches Allison Ray or Anita Sarrett.

The team will not compete at Canadian Henley this year.  We will aim to provide a scrimmage race to end the camp on Saturday July 30th.

Tidewater Boathouse in Oakland:
Time: 8:00 to 11:00am; Monday - Friday

  • 1 week “Jump Start” Session – June 20-24
  • 5 week Varsity Camp Session – June 27-July 30

Note: There will be no practice on July 1st or July 4th so you can enjoy a long holiday weekend with your families.

MEN'S VARSITY CAMP

$850/4 week session; $1200/6 week session

This camp will focus on improving small boat skills, learning basic sculling skills, learning to row both sides in sweep, and fitness development. The coach will select athletes from this camp to compete at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta on July 31st - August 7th. 

Athletes may participate in the competitive camp and not compete at Canadian Henley but must communicate that to the Head Coach within the first week of the camp. Those athletes wishing to compete at Henley will be subject to selection.

Eligibility: This camp is open to Oakland Strokes athletes only who will be enrolled on the Men’s Varsity squad in the Fall of 2016.  Athletes attending the Youth Nationals should sign up for the 4 week session. Athletes not attending Youth Nationals should sign up for the 6 week session. The coach will select athletes from this camp to compete at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta.

Athletes who cannot attend the full camp but wish to attend a partial session should contact Coach Alan Kush.

Tidewater Boathouse in Oakland:
Time: 4:00pm to 6:30pm; Monday – Friday; will include one day per week of land activities away from the boathouse.

  • 4 week Session – June 27-July 22
  • 6 week Session – June 14-July 22

Note: Athletes selected for Canadian Henley will continue to train thru the regatta, which runs from July 31st – August 7th. Athletes will return on Monday August 8th. The approximate cost of Canadian Henley trip is $1700 (does not include personal costs). The final costs will be determined based on the number of athletes attending and flight/rooming costs.
